A Summary

It's a chilly rainy day here in Northern Michigan, a good day to stay home and blog. The photo above was taken last month while camping at Reedsburg Dam in Houghton Lake.
It was supposed to be a four day or more camping trip, but it rained all that week so we came home early...and now we are getting ready to wrap up the camper for the winter, but may take it out for one more trip first...and it is raining. But, with what folks just went through from the hurricane down south...I'm not going to complain about a little rain here!
It's funny how I can get all sorts of ideas to blog about, but when I sit here in front of the screen with the curser blinking on the page...I can't think of anything!
So...Here's a few photos that were taken through the summer...Kinda like a 'summary of the summer' lol!
Enjoy!

A bored Buddy...C'mon, Mom n Dad...I'm tired of doing puzzles!

Sunrise over the Saginaw Bay

Probably the biggest thing that happened to us this year is that WE SAW A BEAR!

Our home away from home

This pup's got the right idea...Camping = relaxing

This is not Buddy...He is a pup we rescued from the middle of a busy road and kept him for a weekend until his owner was found...His name is Moose...and we absolutely adored him and would have kept him forever!

This is the first baby cardinal I've ever seen. There was a nest next to our bedroom window. I felt honored that the parents trusted us enough to place their nest there

Not the best picture, but I like how this hummingbird looks kind of ghostly

When I grow up.

These are some of my current art projects...The last one I made with the intention of coloring them someday.

What kind of grown up do you want to be?

That is a question reserved for children isn't it?

Hi friends, I was listening to 'Family Life Radio' on my way to Bible study yesterday when they asked that question...It was meant for those of us who are already grown ups, and the question was actually about what sort of person you wanted to be when you become an older adult. Well, I know a lot of my friends who read this blog are older adults, and since I was on my way to Bible study where most of the ladies are older adults, it made me think about the attributes that I so admire about my older and wiser friends...and the many valuable things that I have learned and am  still learning from them....Things like patience, gentleness, kindness, respect for others, humbleness, and loving the Lord and others.
Daily I pray that God will help me to be like this...
 (1 Peter 3:4):
but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.

God has truly placed many precious older women into my life since I was very young, and now that I am growing older myself I hope that I can be an example to the younger women too. This is scriptural...

Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. (Titus 2: 3-5)

Having raised three daughters, I do have some experience with teaching younger women...But now that I am back in church I realize that when I left I was still considered a young woman and now I have returned as an older woman which means I have a new responsibility within my church family to be a good example to and to teach and encourage the younger wives and mothers.
The question posed by the radio station was two-fold. The second part of that question was: What are you doing now to become the older adult that you feel the Lord wants you to be? I can't honestly and completely answer that yet, I am doing this one thing for now though...I am patiently  waiting to hear what the Lord is trying to say through His Word and through the older friends who He has placed in my life, and I am learning to be a kinder, more loving person who resembles the Savior more as I grow older. At least that is my goal!
*But this doesn't mean that I must be a grown up all the time...Me and my best friend Deb are arranging a play date real soon...We are both pretty artsy fartsy so we're gonna get together and draw and color like a couple of little girls!

So, my dear friends...
How would you answer the questions?

De-cluttered living room and more views from my Venture van!

BEFORE
                                                                                   AFTER

I can't believe how dramatic the change is by just removing a couple items!
I am loving this de-cluttering. ♥
Here is close up at a better angle

Now for some pictures I took on the way home from my daughter's house today...

I'm so glad I decided to explore a new road!
This barn sure caught my attention...
Here's some details of the art work:

While I was taking pictures of the barn...
Someone was intently
watching me!

I almost missed him and nearly drove away.

More autumn beauty to behold

Well friends, The appraiser has come and gone. She was a very nice lady who is a fellow dog lover. I took Buddy to my daughter's house before she came though because I didn't want to have to deal with his anxiety at having a stranger walking through the house...My own anxiety was enough to handle! I kept Sasha home though because she has been acting as though her arthritis is bothering her and I didn't want to stress her out. She is much more easy going than Bud is anyway.

The lady got a kick out of this rock that I painted for Jeff last July!
(He is infatuated with Big Foot)

Well, that's about it for today...I will be back soon, Lord willing...and maybe with a few more pictures as I continue to de-clutter some other areas of the house and explore some more in the Venture van...weather permitting.

AdVentures in my Venture van...

I was late for Bible study last week because I kept pulling over to take pictures on my way to the church...

These two are normally always side by side whenever I pass by them. This was the first time I seen them apart. If they were standing together it would be obvious that the one in the second picture is actually a tiny pony! I see these two twice a week on my way to church and Bible study.

This trail seemed to beckon to me...Sigh, I cannot follow it on foot anymore, so I must be content to view it from my van.

On our way home from dinner Friday evening...

Love the vibrant splashes of yellow in the sky

...And in the trees!

Autumn is indeed in full color here in Northern Michigan, and I am trying to soak it all up before it is gone. I have been very busy de-cluttering the house this week in preparation for an appraisal because we are in the process of refinancing our mortgage! At one point I had to call my best friend Deb to pray for me to be able to continue the job as the chilly fall weather has settled into my bones, and the arthritis has been nearly unbearable!
Well, her prayer really helped...Thank the Lord! I was able to press through and get the last room finished...it was the room where everything seems to get dumped into, but it is very neat and tidy now. After clearing out so much clutter from this house (mostly decorative objects) I am determined to keep it clutter free. I have better things to do in my spare time than to constantly clean, maintain, and rearrange stuff...Life is just too short. I am making more room(and time) for the people and activities that I enjoy instead :-D

I pray you are being blessed with time spent doing what you enjoy with the people you love!

    This too is meaningless.

Child like faith

Today is our granddaughter, Ashley's 6th birthday!
This photo was taken last month in a little chapel in Indian Woods. Nobody told her to sit down and pray like that, all we said to the kids is that we are going into the chapel to pray. My daughter Ginny and I were looking at a prayer register and writing our names in it when we turned around and seen Ashley sitting there just praying like that. There was another small group of people in the tiny chapel too. I don't know how long she had been sitting there like that, but I immediately grabbed my camera, and got this shot of her. The first thing that came to my mind was this scripture:

Matthew 18:2-4

He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

First let me tell you a little bit about this particular grandchild...
Ashley was conceived at a time of great chaos and difficulty in my daughter's life. It was with mixed emotions we received the news of our daughter's pregnancy. We were more than a little fearful and wondered how in the world our daughter would be able to handle a third child at a time like that. Without getting into all the deep and personal stuff that was happening in her life, I'll just suffice to say that it did not seem like very good news at that time. But underneath all the external stuff, we knew  through faith that God's timing is always perfect...well, the fullness of our understanding of this came shortly after Ashley's birth...She was such a pretty little thing, and we were really so excited to finally meet her...

But it was not long after Ashley's birth when our daughter found out that she had cervical cancer and would need to undergo a hysterectomy three months later.
The surgery was successful in removing the cancer cells, but as many people know, cervical cancer is one of those cancers that usually is not found until there are symptoms, and then it is often too late.
That is when we all realized, that little Ashley very possibly saved her Mama's life! You see, under the circumstances, our daughter would not have gotten a regular checkup unless it was for the pregnancy...and those cancer cells would have not been detected until she was symptomatic.
So, God's timing was absolutely perfect when it came to our little granddaughter's birth.

It is so hard now to even think about the time when the news of her impending birth brought such fear (worry) into our minds...I just thank The Lord that he sent such a special little girl into our lives, and I think about how her life has taught us all a valuable lesson in trusting God, and leaning not unto our own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5)

Now, I love all my granddaughters, even the one's who are my 'adopted' granddaughters...But, there is a special bond between Ashley and I. When I was going through chemo and lost all my hair, Ashley wanted to shave her head! Every time she visits, she is either on my lap or holding my hand wherever we go. While the rest of the family are outside playing, she and I are in the house coloring! You see, since I got sick last year, I started to do some of the things that I enjoyed doing as a child. I described myself as 'child-like.
I even began to think about my Heavenly Father as more of a 'Daddy' to me. I often imagined myself curled up in his lap for comfort when I wasn't feeling well, and I believed...really believed that he would keep all his promises to me...to carry me, to give me more grace, to always be with me and never forsake me in my time of need, and he kept those promises!  I will never forget what it was like to have a child like faith in the one whom I can call 'Abba' (Daddy)!

Looking again at that picture of a child in simple prayer, makes me wonder at how complicated my faith had gotten over the years (before the cancer diagnosis). I remember at our women's Bible study a few years ago we were trying to learn the "correct" way to pray...breaking down the scriptures regarding prayer, reading and re-reading The Lord's Prayer in an attempt to get it just right.
Some people might say that Ashley was only mimicking a prayer posture, but I think that sitting there quietly praying came naturally to her, and she got it right. She wasn't worried about the right words, or whether anyone was noticing her...She was told why we were in the chapel, and she did what her heart told her to do.
Perhaps we could learn a thing or two from that!

Today in Bible study we discussed how and when the word 'Abba' was used. It was  used three times in the new testament.

Abba [N] [B] [H] [S]
This Syriac or Chaldee word is found three times in the New Testament ( Mark 14:36 ; Romans 8:15 ; Galatians 4:6 ), and in each case is followed by its Greek equivalent, which is translated "father." It is a term expressing warm affection and filial confidence. It has no perfect equivalent in our language. It has passed into European languages as an ecclesiastical term, "abbot."

"'Abba, Father,' he said, 'everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.'" (Mark 14:36)
"For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, 'Abba, Father.'" (Romans 8:15)
"Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, 'Abba, Father.'" (Galatians 4:6)

Getting Caught Up

I hope everyone had a nice Easter celebration. In my mind, every day is a time to celebrate our resurrected Lord!
This time last year (Good Friday 2014)...I remember sitting in my oncologist's office receiving a chemo infusion and listening to the other women and even the doctor and his staff making various plans for Easter at their churches. I remember wishing that I had a church family to celebrate with, and hoping that this year(2015) would be different...The Lord knows my heart and He brought a way for me to re-connect with my church family from years ago, this year...and I am pleased to announce that I have been enjoying the teaching and fellowship at the women's Bible study on Thursdays, and Sunday worship is sweeter than ever...Everyone there welcomed me back with open arms!

It is hard to believe another year of wedded bliss has flown by as we celebrated our 32nd. wedding anniversary on March 23rd...We camped out in the camper in the yard! The temps were below zero both nights that weekend, but the small propane heater kept us warm and snug!

Well, that's about all that I have to report for now. I pray that everyone is well and enjoying some Spring weather if you are in a region where it is Springtime...We had a snow storm on Easter morning, and Jeff had to work clearing roads...so I ended up attending Church by myself yesterday, but everyone appreciated the extra salt that he dumped in front of the church just in time for the sunrise service.

Remember that Jesus is very much alive and always will be. He is preparing a place for us so that we can be with him forever in Glory!
This is something to celebrate each and every day.

But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying,
“This is the covenant that I will make with them
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws on their hearts,
and write them on their minds,”

 then he adds,
“I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”

Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.

Hebrews 10:12-18
