Barely Hanging On?

Ever feel like this?

http://web4.audubon.org/bird/ivory/pileated.php

This guy has quite literally been hanging out at our feeder daily this summer.
You can't help but giggle a little as you watch him hanging in the most precarious ways from the suet.  Pileated woodpeckers feed on dead trees and insects amongst other things, something we have an ample supply of here in the forest, yet he seems to prefer the suet as a supplement to his daily diet. It got me thinking, how hungry for the Word of God am I? Seriously, what would I be willing to do to get my daily fill of it? Would I seek it out and when found, cling tenaciously to it even if it meant people might laugh at how silly they think I am? Would I be like our friend whom we've aptly nick-named Woody,  and throwing caution to the wind just hang on with all my might and receive all the nourishment that God has for me.
The world has provided all sorts of stuff for our hearts and minds to feed on, very few things are spiritually healthy for us though.  The Word of God is called spiritual food. Jesus is refered to as the Bread Of Life and living water. John 6:35
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
John 6:34-36 (in Context) John 6 (Whole Chapter)

 He is the Living Word...

John 1 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14  14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The Bible is our source for this spiritual nourishment. I believe it should be the mission of every christian to provide a place to offer this nourishment to whomever may wander into our lives. It may be as simple as blogging to share the Word of God, or it may be taking the opportunity to actually tell someone today that God loves them, I don't  preach to people, I never liked being preached to, but a smile is a nice gesture to use to begin a dialog with someone whom the Holy Spirit leads you to.

Hang in there fellow Christians!,
We have peace in Jesus, & we are..

On Aging Gracefully

Daily I mourn the loss of my youth. Like the soil of a thousand years’ erosion revealing the jewel beneath, it falls from my frame and with it falls the scales from my blinded eyes allowing me to see clearly the essence of my soul. I accept it’s passing with a quiet dignity that comes with the knowledge that although I shall miss it, what I have left is even more precious now.
As we get older, our faces become paler, our bodies weaker, frailer. As we look down upon our weathered hands they somehow seem more tender and beautiful as we realize they are oft folded in prayer, or holding gently the hand of a loved one.
Yes I shed a tear and sighed away the remnants of despair, but deep inside I felt the peace that only comes to us upon the wings of hope, a promise whispered into the heart. Be still and know that you are being formed into the image of God.
For it is the soul that takes on a certain beauty as we grow older when we walk closer to Him.

There is a Japanese term called ‘Wabi-Sabi’ it means to find beauty in the ordinary things, especially in the natural world, things like a gnarled tree branch, or an ancient fossil, or perhaps the fallen petals from a flower floating upon the surface of a puddle.
But I wonder, will we see this beauty as we gaze into our mirror, or will we only see that stranger there who sort of resembles us, but maybe looks a little more each day like our mother or grandmother?

Are you seeking holiness?

I apologize for not posting for a while
I've been getting into the Word.  I've been almost overwhelmed with questions and needed to seek God for the answers.  I don't have all my questions answered yet, and I believe that until we get to heaven, there's much we won't know.  In fact, I debated whether or not to return to this blog since I became worried that I may be mis- representing the truth in some way since I don't have all the answers.  Satan sure can mess with our minds sometimes, After all, who do I think I am to be even trying to know this stuff?

For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:15-16 (in Context) 1 Corinthians 2 (Whole Chapter)

Oh Yea! I almost forgot about that!
Even the Lord himself was given knowledge from the Father as needed. So for now we don't know everything, but we know what we need to know when we need to know it! (smiling contently)

So what have I found out lately?
What pearl of wisdom have I to share with you today?
(hint)
It is simple in theory, not so simple in application.
It is this:
God is Holy
And we are to be holy because He is holy.
Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
1 Peter 1:15-17 (in Context) 1 Peter 1 (Whole Chapter)

We cannot become holy like him unless we abstain from all evil.

1 Thessalonians 5:21-23

King James Version (KJV)

21Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22Abstain from all appearance of evil.
23And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

If we draw near to God He will draw near to us,
If we resist the devil, he will flee from us.
James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:6-8 (in Context) James 4 (Whole Chapter)

Even the best, well meaning christian will have difficulty in this. I mean the things we subject ourselves to, or in some cases, are even unknowingly subjected to in our everyday life must be scrutinized, The games we play, the movies we watch, the stuff we read online or otherwise etc...In the end, there will be no excuses.  If we are faithful and obedient to apply God's formula ( to abstain from all appearances of evil ), then we will be shown with the Holy Spirit's help what is evil, and what is good. We need this more than ever as we approach the last days when evil will be called good, and good will be called evil.
I think it's safe to say that the line that separates good and evil is becoming harder to see as it becomes obscured by what we accept as common. We are in danger of becoming desensitized by what we see every day.

Peace In Jesus,
& remember, We are..
Never Forsaken
