May 21, 2011 Staying Grounded In The Word Of God

Matthew 24:36&4436 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
44 "Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

SCRIPTURAL DESCRIPTIONS OF A FALSE PROPHET:

Deuteronomy 18 v 20
. 20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death.”
21 You may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD ?” 22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
Jeremiah 14:14
Then the LORD said to me, “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries and the delusions of their own minds.
Jeremiah 23:16
This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you; they fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD

                Don't try to out-smart God!
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For
it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness
                                         (1 Corinthians 3:19~KJV)

Harold Camping's calculations predicting the Day of Judgment

Harold Camping

May 19, 2011

Harold CampingThis isn’t a recent prediction. He mentioned its possibility in his book 1994? in which he suggested the rapture might occur on September 7 of that year. But if it didn’t, he said, then it would definitely happen on May 21, 2011, due to a difference in calculations. So give him credit. He’s got quite a few years invested in this prediction.
Harold Camping doesn’t care if you quote Matthew 24:36 to him. That well-known verse states, “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even
the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” Camping uses 1 Cor. 2:10-14 to redefine what “no one knows” means, and says that the saved CAN know because they are indwelt by God’s spirit. The wicked don’t know, unfortunately. But even though Matthew 24:36 says Jesus won’t know either, well that’s just wrong, Camping says. Of course Jesus will know. Because Jesus and God are one.

The Living Dead

Have you noticed how many movies are made about zombies? We find the creatures ugly and repulsive, a contradiction in and of itself. (the walking dead or living dead) The thought of them conjures up images of ghastly creatures mindlessly walking around in ragged clothes stinking up the place, looking for someone to devour.(Gal.5:15) This is how we looked to God before we were changed into the image of His Son. Isaiah 64:6 says it like this: But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags..
We may think that our good deeds make us beautiful and ,well [good]; but unless we are clothed with the righteousness of Christ, God sees us quite differently. for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” (Galatians 3:27)). In this text, the word "clothed" is translated from [endunw-enduno], and properly means to envelop in, to hide in, and to put on something. The word “clothed” has been defined "to become so possessed of the mind of Christ as in thought, feeling, and action to resemble him and, as it were, reproduce the life he lived." –Joseph Henry Thayer
Jesus at one point tells one of the disciples to “Let the dead bury the dead” (Mat.8:22)

Thankfully we were given a new identity, a new life when we accepted Jesus. We can now say “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Gal.2:20)
When we get dressed in the morning, we do not desire to dig through the hamper and pull out the dirty clothes that we wore days ago, but when we turn back to  our 'old ways' from our old life before we knew the Lord, we are putting on the smelly old clothing of our [old man] who was dead and buried. Instead let us daily stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and not be entangled again with the yoke of bondage. (Gal.5:1)
  • What's your favorite movie? Why?
  • If the book of Revelation was made into a movie (a realistic one) do you think a lot of people would get saved after watching it?
  • Did you get saved after reading the book of Revelation in the Bible? (I did!)

Lantern or Lighthouse?

Ever been lost?
When we lived in the city it was unthinkable to get lost outside at night because there was always light, no matter how late. When we moved from the city into a very rural, wooded place I realized just how dark the night could be, you literally could get lost in your own backyard without a yard light on! In fact, family members nearby had their property stolen and among the items taken was a lantern, no doubt to light the thief's way while looking for valuables. God's Word is called a lantern in the bible. (Psalm 119:105) I've been lost before, even in daytime because I failed to read a map (yes, women do that sometimes too). But there is nothing scarier than getting lost in the dark where we can't see familiar markers to guide us to safety, we wander aimlessly stumbling over even the smallest obstacles. Sometimes we drift so far away from God because we've embarked on our journey neglecting to keep our lanterns lit with(the Word of God); that's when He sometimes needs to send us a lighthouse to guide us back to safety, that's when we encounter God's word usually where or when we didn't expect it. Hopefully we will learn to be wise enough to stay on the narrow way trusting Jesus as our shepherd, for surely He is like a lighthouse guiding us.

If I were lost, would you bring your lantern and come find me?

Would you share the light of God's word with me?

Would you be a light set upon the hilltop?
(Matthew 5:14)
